This trip enables you to enjoy the beautiful scenery and popular hill town of Dien Bien close to the Laos border. The trip includes a visit to the historic battlefield of Dien Bien Phu , where the French, after nearly 100 years of colonization and nine years of war, were defeated in 1954 by the Viet Minh, lead by Ho Chi Minh. Also included are the hill tribe villages of the Tai, Thai and H'mong peoples.
Today, most visitors who reach this outpost come for the history. But along with the old army headquarters, a museum and monuments, Dien Bien Phu offers pristine mountain scenery and fascinating minority cultures.

Day 1: Hanoi - Dien Bien Phu
You will be picked up and transferred to the airport for flight VN 492 09:55- 10:55 to Dien Bien Phu . Upon arrival we will check in to our hotel. This afternoon we will walk around the town, visit Dien Bien cemetery and the museum, explore the local market. We spend tonight in the hotel

 

Day 2: Dien Bien Phu (B)
We spend the day around Dien Bien Phu visiting the former battlefields . It was here that the French planned to lure the Viet Minh, led by Ho Chi Minh, into the valley by sending 16,000 French troops as bait. The French however did not count on the brilliant leadership of General Vo Nguyen Giap who somehow managed to place the Vietnamese artillery on the surrounding ridges. From March until May 1954 the Viet Minh pounded the French positions until the French capitulated with the loss of 3,000 men. It's estimated that the Viet Minh lost more than twice that number. Later you visit the head quarter of General Giap during the Dien Bien Phu campaign. W e will have the chance to meet several of the different ethnic minority tribes here, when we visit the villages of both the Thai and H'mong people. Tonight will be our second night in Dien Bien Phu .

 

Day 3: Dien Bien Phu – Hanoi (B)
We have a morning at leisure and then we will transfer to the airport for flight VN 493 11:40-12:40 back to Hanoi where you will be picked up and dropped off at your hotel.
